ProStor Confirms
Tandberg has sold 100,000 RDX drives
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 11, 2008 at 3:34 pmProStor Systems honored Tandberg Data, one of its licensee partners, for shipping more than 100,000 RDX docks in less than two years. Tandberg Data achieved this milestone by supplying RDX technology to brand-name PC server OEMs, and through their own branded channel.
RDX removable disk technology was developed by ProStor Systems and is licensed to Tandberg Data to manufacture, market and sell worldwide. RDX removable disk technology provides business customers with economical and high-performance data protection for their servers and workstations.
"We congratulate our partner Tandberg Data for reaching this historic shipment milestone," said Steve Georgis, ProStor founder and general manager of RDX business. "Tandberg Data has been very instrumental in helping RDX technology achieve widespread acceptance with well over 100,000 customers who have consumed more than 40 petabytes of RDX removable disk cartridges."
"We are honored to accept this award from ProStor Systems and look forward to continued global expansion of RDX technology," added Pat Clarke, CEO of Tandberg Data. "Sales of RDX technology have grown through our vast OEM and reseller networks as well as through our own Tandberg RDX QuikStor brand because RDX technology satisfies the requirement for easy, professional-grade data protection at an affordable price."
The RDX removable disk storage solution is 10 times faster and more reliable than any tape storage product used in the past on individual servers or workstations. Simple, reliable and cost-effective, RDX technology reduces the typical data backup window from hours to minutes and allows users to backup 100 GB of data in less than an hour. Additionally, RDX removable disk systems include a dock and cartridge that contains a mobile 2.5-inch hard disk drive in a shock-proof design. Its robust design ensures customers have a secure, durable backup system that can withstand environmental contaminants and sustain a fall of up to one meter.
Business customers can customize their backup strategies using RDX removable disk media with cartridge capacities of 80 GB, 160 GB, 320 GB and 500 GB. Because the RDX disk cartridge uses the same hard disk drives found in notebook computers, the maximum capacity of an individual RDX cartridge will continue to increase at the same rate — doubling approximately every 18 months. The palm-sized cartridges can be stacked, labeled, bar-coded and managed onsite or offsite for added protection.
RDX technology provides forward and backward compatibility – enabling users to upgrade to higher capacity cartridges without having to buy new docks – resulting in a higher return on investment. Certified to run with most popular backup software, RDX removable disk technology meets the industry’s standard for data preservation with an archive life of at least 30 years, based on a study performed by an independent third-party testing organization.
