LaCie Boosts USB With New Driver

LaCie announced an array of software tools to simplify the data backup and system setup processes for LaCie consumer storage systems customers. And the company also unveiled a new driver to improve the performance for some of its USB products.

Starting this month, LaCie will ship the Genie Backup Assistant for PC users and the Intego Backup Assistant for Mac users with many of its consumer storage products. Genie Backup Assistant is based on the award-winning Genie Backup Manager software and turns complicated data backup tasks into a simple two-step event. Users can easily perform scheduled backups locally or over a network using file compression and optional password protection for added security.

Similarly, this month selected LaCie drives will ship with Intego Backup Assistant for Mac users, a comprehensive backup solution for Mac OS X derived from the Intego’s award-winning Personal Backup X5 technology. Intego Backup Assistant is an easy to use software tool that protects Mac users from data loss by systematically making copies of their documents, applications, and system files.

Additionally, the company is bundling LaCie Setup Assistant with its consumer storage systems, turning the often frustrating disk drive formatting and preparation process into one simple step.

"Simplifying the user experience for all aspects of data storage systems is a fundamental goal at LaCie," said Nicolas Pasquier the company’s Software Product Manager. "By adding Genie Backup Assistant, Intego Backup Assistant and LaCie Setup Assistant we have turned important, though historically complex processes, into truly simple tasks to assure that users are able to protect their critical data without worry or hassle."

Finally, LaCie unveiled the availability of USB Boost, an enhanced driver for LaCie Little Disk, LaCie Hard Disk Design by Neil Poulton and LaCie Rugged USB drives. This new driver significantly improves the read-write performance of these USB drives by up to 33% versus the previous LaCie driver.
