DSI Signs its 100th VTL Customer
The City of Detroit
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 7, 2008 at 3:15 pmDynamic Solutions International (DSI), provider of data storage solutions and comprehensive professional services for business and enterprises, has implemented its 100th mainframe attached virtual tape library (VTL) system at the City of Detroit.
DSI’s VTL storage appliance will be used by the City of Detroit’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department as an enterprise backup solution for their current Unisys MCP-based payroll system, Windows 2000 servers, Novell servers and a HP-UX test system. Additionally, the Detroit police headquarters will be using the DSI9000 and DSI900 virtual tape storage array that will enable them to replicate tape volumes across a fiber connection from the production data center located at Coleman A. Young Municipal Center.
Committed to customer service and satisfaction, DSI replaced the City’s outdated physical tape silos by designing a VTL system package to specifically fit the needs and requirements best suited for the City. Full VTL implementation was completed in August, and has since enabled the City of Detroit to complete their backup in a fraction of the time that it used to take with the physical libraries.
"DSI continues to build on the success of providing storage solutions that streamline the backup process and ensure security and recovery," said Chris Johnson, vice president of storage solutions for DSI. "We are the only FalconStor partner with support for mainframe attached VTL’s, and with over 35 years for experience in the storage industry, have particularly strong relationships with our customers around the world. There has been much success with the DSI VTL family of products, and we are delighted to mark our 100th mainframe attached VTL installation with the City of Detroit."
"We congratulate DSI in reaching this milestone as they continue to be our preferred partner for developing and supporting a FalconStor-powered VTL solution for the Unisys mainframe market," said Bernie Wu, vice president of business development at FalconStor. "We look forward to continued growth of their business and the delivery of best-in-class backup/DR solutions for Unisys mainframe systems administrators."
Partnering with FalconStor to provide superior storage solutions, DSI’s VTL appliance uses disk to emulate industry standard tape libraries and offers a combination of conventional technologies including RAID, fibre channel and iSCSI interfaces. Additionally, ongoing interoperability testing with leading hardware and software solutions ensures seamless integration of the VTL into virtually any IT environment.
In addition to the DSI9000 VTL series, DSI also offers its own host-based software for storage policy management within the Unisys MCP operating system environment. DSI has also recently released version 2 of the DSI9000 VTL family that provides a broader spectrum of platforms for data backup and recovery, and support for the Unisys OS2200 and HP OpenVMS operating system environments.
