Silicon Graphics, Inc. unveiled SGI InfiniteStorage 15000, a new storage platform that pushes beyond existing limitations in access speeds, capacity, footprint and energy efficiency.

Breakthrough innovations from SGI have allowed customers to eliminate bottlenecks even in the most demanding compute and streaming media environments where data sets can swell to Petabytes, and the SGI InfiniteStorage 15000 continues this tradition.

• Balanced read/write performance of 6 gigabytes/second optimizes data storage and access. A single controller can handle multiple 4K streams of data, with capacity that can scale to 1.2 Petabytes in only two racks.
• Built-in Dynamic Massive Array of Idle Disks (D-MAID) functionality helps control power and cooling costs by spinning down drives that are not in use. The system’s sleep mode minimizes re-start time, so performance isn’t sacrificed.
• High-performance SAS and cost-effective SATA drives can, for the first time, be combined in dense packaging and assigned based on the performance requirements of the applications.
