Restructuration at Brocade: Philippe Nicolas Being One of the Victims

By Jean Jacques Maleval | October 30, 2008 at 3:36 pmFollowing a restructuration at Brocade concerning the FAN activity – which was never really successful – , Philippe Nicolas, FAN technology evangelist for EMEA, reporting to VP WW marketing Tom Buiocchi, will leave the company in few days with other members of the European team involved in FAN.
He was recruited by Brocade in February 2007. He is currently searching a new job and is in contact with one of the most famous U.S. storage analyst company.
He was formerly during ten years at Veritas France where he was the first employee in 1977 and then at Symantec in charge of several EMEA marketing activities.
Before that, he filled different functions at SGI and Compaq on data and storage management.
He has also currently a lot of activities as:
- Member of the Advisory Board of Vadis-Partners since September 2006
- Consultant for Exalead since September 2006
- Founder and President of the SNIA France and board member of SNIA Europe as Director and Data Management Initiative Chair
- Member of the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force)
He also participates to the following associations:
- SIIA (Software and Information Industry Association)
- DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force)
- Open Grid Forum
- CAS Community
- SVASE (Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs)
Traveling all around the world and following deeply the storage start-ups, Nicolas was an active participant in the acquisition of Rainfinity by EMC.
He made more than 400 interventions at French or international events for Brocade, SNIA, Veritas or Symantec and is the author of several white papers, editorials or articles for French computer periodicals on paper (i-Stockage, MagSecurs, 01Informatique and Le Monde Informatique) or in line (silicon.fr).
