Chelsio Demos 10Gb iSCSI solution
Delivering 250,000 IO/s
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 20, 2008 at 2:58 pmChelsio Communications, Inc., provider of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) adapters and ASIC solutions, demonstrated a complete 10Gb iSCSI solution delivering the industry’s high performance (>250,000 IOPs)at Storage Networking World in Dallas. Using off-the-shelf 4U servers, Chelsio is showing how datacenter IT can deliver optimal access to its storage resources while delivering the lowest total cost of ownership through iSCSI-based SANs using Chelsio Unified Wire technology.
"The message to IT management is that 10Gb iSCSI SANs are available now that deliver superior performance in raw throughput, high IOPs, and low cost of ownership. We are demonstrating a complete low cost, high performance iSCSI SAN/NAS solution during SNW which does not require the forklift upgrade of the switch infrastructure," said Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO of Chelsio. "The storage market is now moving towards 10Gb iSCSI, and our Storage Accelerators are already in wide deployment through major OEM relationships."
The SNW demonstration consists of four 10GbE connected initiators aggregating into a low cost off-the-shelf server that is used as the storage target, all including Chelsio S310e-SR+ Storage Accelerators using iSCSI Offload. IOMeter SAN benchmark was used to demonstrate 250K+ IOPs and 10GbE full-duplex into the storage box accessing actual storage (no RAMDISK). By comparison, an FC link exhibits about 200K IOPs and at most 8Gb of bandwidth.
The demonstration includes concurrent operation of the same storage target as a NAS solution running on Chelsio’s TOE, thereby showcasing the benefits of a consolidated high performance SAN/NAS solution that is only possible with Chelsio’s Unified Wire Storage Accelerators. The demonstration uses a simple L2 Ethernet switch thereby demonstrating the low cost of ownership of this consolidated storage solution.
