Imation DataGuard rf Tape Tracking System Available in Europe
After its announcement last August in U.S.A
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 9, 2008 at 3:53 pmImation has announced the availability of its DataGuard rf Tape Tracking System in Europe. It allows enterprises to ensure sensitive information is protected at all times through accurate, reliable media tracking. Imation’s DataGuard rf System is a design and engineering breakthrough that puts the range, reliability and accuracy of RFID (radio frequency identification) into the data centre.
With patent pending integrated RFID-Volume and Serial Number Labels (VOL-Ser), Imation has produced a robust and secure label that incorporates advanced ultra high frequency (UHF) based RFID technology as well as Volser identification technology helping to reduce the risk of lost or misfiled tapes. This allows businesses to improve security and reduce the threat of data leakage by accounting for cartridge locations wherever they are: in your data centre, in transit or at an off-site vault facility.
At up to 20 times the speed of legacy barcode systems, the user can scan RFID-enabled cartridges using a dual function Motorola 9090G handheld reader. The handheld reader, pre-loaded with proprietary Imation software, is ideal for performing library audits and recording tape cartridge daily movements either in the data centre or in off-site transit. It does this by reading both the newly integrated RFID labels as well as existing barcodes and automatically logs each cartridge transaction into an export file that can be linked to the customer’s tape management system (TMS), providing the user with confidence, reliability and control in their data centre.
“A broad array of firms are increasingly aware that missing or lost tape cartridges can not only jeopardise their customer’s privacy and security, but can also damage their public perception,” says Robert Amatruda, research director, IDC. “Imation’s DataGuard rf provides a solution for more efficient tape cartridge tracking, inventory and management that helps to mitigate exposure to these security-related issues.”
To ensure the safety of vital company information, an optional terabyte-class cartridge transport and storage case is available. The Imation DataGuard transport and storage cases provide the lifelong storage, transport and protection that enterprises need with two-to-four times the shock protection of other transport methods, in an easy-to-spot bright yellow colour.
“Now more than ever, media security within a data centre is critical. At Imation we understand that the best way to ensure sensitive information is protected at all times is through accurate, reliable media tracking,” explains Anna Lidén, product manager at Imation. “With our open-interface Imation software that syncs with any existing tape management system, data centre managers can enjoy the benefits of RFID without changing their existing TMS.”
The new Imation DataGuard rf Tape Tracking System consists of the integrated RFID/Vol-Ser labels, duel-functioning Motorola handheld reader, and open-interface DataGuard rf software. Also available are the best in class DataGuard transport and storage cases with a 20 cartridge capacity.
