Carbonite Opening Online Backup Center in Beijing

"We are the first American online backup vendor to offer a local data center in China"

Carbonite, Inc. announced the launch of its new data center in Beijing, China. Carbonite is the first American online backup vendor to offer a local data center in China. The new data center is highly scalable and will eventually handle millions of users.

China presents a very big opportunity in online backup. But it’s also a market that requires a substantial commitment of resources to be successful. To succeed in this market, we felt it was essential to have a physical presence in China, so we picked Beijing as the site for our first China data center,” said David Friend, co-founder and CEO of Carbonite. “Having a data center in China allows us to be closer to our Chinese partners, and it allows Carbonite to provide far superior backup performance for everyone in the country.”

China and India have been cited for rapid expansion in the area of broadband connections.

The fastest growth in broadband connections over the next few years will be in the China/India region, which are still adopting DSL at a rapid rate and we expect this trend to continue,” said Claudio Castelli, Senior Analyst for Ovum.

Carbonite has made a significant commitment to international expansion and now has users in more than 120 countries.

We recently released a Chinese version of Carbonite and the addition of our data center in Beijing is a strategic foothold in the largest and fastest growing broadband market in the world,” said Keith Cooper, President and COO of Carbonite. “Carbonite is committed to the Chinese market since we are determined to become a global player in the backup industry.”
