Netezza To Locate European Operations Centre in Dundalk, Co Louth

Creating 65 positions

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Dermot Ahern T.D. announced that Netezza Corporation of Massachusetts, U.S.A., is to locate a European Operations Centre in Dundalk, Co Louth with the support of IDA Ireland. The company will create 65 highly skilled positions over 5 years in a customer support and financial services operation to serve the European market.

Netezza provides data warehouse equipment that helps store, retrieve and analyse large amounts of data. The company’s appliances integrate database, server, and storage functions, allowing customers to quickly analyse large amounts of data at lower costs than traditional data warehouses. Its customers include Government agencies and companies in data-intensive fields such as telecommunications, financial services, e-business, retail, analytic service providers and health care. The Irish operation will act as the financial and administrative hub for the company’s sales operations across Europe and will provide direct support to customers in the region.

Minister Ahern said: “This is excellent news for Dundalk and for the North East Region. The availability of skilled and multilingual staff and local infrastructure were major factors in the company’s decision to locate in Dundalk. All the positions to be created will require a third level qualification and some will require additional European languages earning salaries of over €44k p.a.”

Locating its European Operations centre in Dundalk will allow Netezza to be closer to existing and target customers and will help increase revenues in this growth market. It is a further indication that the North East region is a leading location for ICT projects and companies that are fast becoming key players in the industry. With a client base that includes major global companies such as Orange UK and Amazon.com, Netezza sees significant opportunities in basing its operation here,” concluded the Minister.

Speaking at today’s announcement, Patrick J. Scannell, Jr., Senior Vice President & CFO of Netezza, said: “The European Operations Centre that we will establish in Dundalk will act as a technical support hub for customers across Europe as well as a finance and administration support centre for the European operations. After an intensive location search, we decided on Ireland and Dundalk for our European Operation because it met all the requirements for our future development.”
