Loyens & Loeff Purchases Two Plasmon AA638 Archive Appliances
The law firm cuts power costs and achieves email archive best practices targets.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 25, 2008 at 3:14 pmPlasmon PLC announced that Loyens & Loeff, an international full-service law firm based in the Netherlands, has deployed a multi level email archiving strategy, using Symantec Enterprise Vault software and the Plasmon Archive Appliance. Loyens & Loeff selected Plasmon because it wanted a stable and cost effective archive that would eliminate the need for daily backups and reduce the frequency of archive migration.
“The Plasmon Archive Appliance matched our business and technical email archive data retention requirements. We calculated that installing a Plasmon archive could save us more than €280,000 over the next five years, when compared to our initial solution, which was based on extending our production data storage architecture, through lower purchase and operating costs,” commented Kees Sprangers, Senior System Engineer at Loyens & Loeff. “In addition to cost considerations, the firm is very sensitive to its environmental impact. The use of Plasmon Archive Appliance helps us meet our environmental responsibilities by considerably reducing the amount of electricity the archive will consume and, we’ve calculated, will save the firm €60,000 in power costs over five years.”
Loyens & Loeff enlisted the assistance of a local integrator, 2E2 Data Management, who worked closely with its distributor SNE to optimise their existing email archive strategy. The new archive solution, using policies set in Enterprise Vault, retains emails in local inboxes and primary storage for three months and then automatically provisions and moves the emails from local inboxes into the EV environment on to archival disk. After a further nine months all email is transferred, by policy and rules to the long term archive storage level on the Plasmon Archive Appliance. This strategy provides totally transparent user access to recent and historic emails with maximum assurance and authenticity at the lowest total cost. Loyens & Loeff purchased two Plasmon AA638 Archive Appliances for their primary and disaster recovery sites, which will allow the firm to meet its five-year email growth prediction without significant additional capital investment.
“The Plasmon Archive Appliance solution is fully certified with the Symantec Enterprise Vault software,” explained Mike Koclanes, strategy director for Plasmon. “We see many customers that, like Loyens & Loeff, have significant email archiving issues that impact their overall IT infrastructure. Plasmon’s joint solution with Symantec, and other email archiving vendors, helps companies manage the growth of their email, reducing backup and operating costs, while addressing their compliance obligations and the need for better corporate governance. The multi level storage strategy deployed by Loyens & Loeff using our Archive Appliance provides measurable business and technical benefits.”
