Zmanda Teams With NetApp
Adding snapshot technology to protect MySQL databases
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 4, 2008 at 3:41 pmZmanda is delivering a new level of data protection for MySQL databases with the integration of NetApp Snapshot technology with the Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) for MySQL. Together, NetApp and ZRM enable MySQL customers to implement continuous data protection for mission-critical MySQL databases. Zmanda also announced that it has joined the NetApp Advantage Developer Program and that ZRM for MySQL has been certified for use with NetApp storage systems.
“We are delighted that the backup and recovery experts at Zmanda have created an efficient and powerful way to deliver continuous data protection for MySQL,” said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Solutions Marketing at NetApp. “By integrating ZRM for MySQL with NetApp Snapshot and storage management technology, Zmanda has given MySQL users a powerful data protection solution that addresses even the most demanding MySQL applications.”
With NetApp Snapshot, database administrators can create point-in-time copies of file systems, which can be used to protect data — from a single file to a complete disaster recovery solution. Users can protect data with no performance impact and minimal consumption of storage space.
“NetApp is an industry leader in storage management, and MySQL is one of the most popular and pervasive databases,” said Chander Kant, Zmanda CEO. “The integration of ZRM for MySQL with NetApp Snapshot technology creates a new synergy between NetApp and MySQL, making it even easier for MySQL DBAs to perform instantaneous, automated, and efficient backup and recovery of data stored on NetApp storage systems.”
ZRM for MySQL is open source, enterprise-class backup and recovery software designed to help MySQL database administrators prevent the serious damage caused by data loss in the event of human error and system or database failure. ZRM is designed specifically for MySQL databases and includes unique, enterprise-grade features such as MySQL storage engine and snapshot intelligence, replication support, point-in-time recovery, and integration of backup operations with MySQL binary logs.
Together, ZRM for MySQL and NetApp Snapshot deliver a unique disk-based backup and granular recovery solution for MySQL customers. The solution provides MySQL database administrators with hot online backup capability without affecting applications and users, continuous data protection, and granular point-in-time recovery. This integration allows ZRM to work hand-in-hand with NetApp data protection products such as SnapRestore and SnapMirror.
Zmanda and NetApp have jointly written a technical report with detailed information about the ZRM data protection solution for MySQL.
