Montilio Officially Dead

Five years after its inception

After nearly five years, the Israeli storage startup Montilio, formerly SiliconNetworks, closed its doors recently without any notice, and its web site being stopped.

I’m sure some of you remembers its solution with an attractive approach, but the execution seemed to be the issue. At the genesis of the company was an obvious finding that, to better serve file on the IP network, the segregation of the data transfer and the flow control was a key performance improvement.

The Montilio offering was a PCI card named FSRD – File Service ReDirector – at 64 bits with 2Gb FC and 2 Gb Ethernet ports. The OS supportes were Linux, Unix and Windows and CIFS and NFS v2 and v3 with performances gains between 200 and 500%. Everything seemed to be ready with open platform and NAS protocols support and the choice of an OEM business model but the market never took off.
