Online Deduplication Calculator by Data Domain

Data Domain announced a new online tool that helps users understand how it is possible to reduce storage and bandwidth requirements. By entering data about their current storage environment, users can compare traditional disk and tape-based methods of data protection to efficiencies achieved using Data Domain products.

This tool calculates user input data including backup data set size, backup windows, retention periods and disaster recover (DR) requirements to compare the alternatives of Data Domain, disk/VTL or tape. By experimenting with the input values, users can gain a basic understanding of some of the variables that impact data reduction ratios and the value Data Domain systems can provide in terms of reducing the storage footprint at local and DR sites, as well as reducing the bandwidth required to move data between them.
