NetApp today announced its tie up with Mumbai-based
animation studio Maya Entertainment Limited (MEL) to provide its
storage solutions to leverage Maya’s animation projects.
"We are seeing opportunity in digital animation space in India, due to
growing outsourcing work as well as proprietary based work developed in
India. Global animation industry is expected to touch $80 billion by
2010 and the Indian animation industry is estimated to touch $900
million by 2010, out of which exports account for over 70 per cent of
revenues," said Soumitra Agarwal, marketing director, India, NetApp.
"The NetApp enterprise class FAS 3050, a unified storage system,
provides scalability, performance and high reliability, which is very
critical for a data intensive digital studio like MEL. Production
houses are relying heavily on the data storage systems for on time
output, quick back-up and security," he added.
MEL is in the process of delivering two hi-definition international
television serials for the UK and US markets. It is also working on a
high-end animation for the Bollywood.
"IT infrastructure is critical to face the challenges of the digital
industry and deliver a complex work in heavy formats like hi-definition
and film. Our critical data is served from the NetApp system across a
high speed data network," said Jai Natarajan, EVP- business
development, MEL.
