Abstract: “This paper investigates the offtrack read capability (OTRC) in hard disk drives utilizing Two-Dimensional Magnetic Recording (TDMR) technology. The off-track bit error rate bathtub was measured in the 747 test, conducted over a range of linear densities. A Gaussian model is proposed to fit the dual bit error rate (BER) peaks observed in the OTRC bathtub of the TDMR head due to the cross-track separation. Using the Gaussian model, we can fit the OTRC bathtub with dual BER peaks, so as to enhance the measurement of off-track read capability (OTRC) and squeeze-to-death (S2D) in hard disk drives with TDMR technology.“
