Norvic International Hospital in Nepal Chooses Nakivo
To safeguard critical patient data and saves time on administration
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 27, 2024 at 2:00 pmNakivo Inc. announced that Norvic International Hospital has selected its Backup & Replication to protect their environment.
Norvic International Hospital has been operating in Nepal for nearly 30 years. It develops a care-based system that offers digitized, integrated services accessible to everyone.
The hospital’s team of skilled medical professionals is dedicated to providing personalized and compassionate healthcare, addressing the needs of each patient with the utmost attention and care.
To enhance patient experience and ensure access to services, Norvic accepts a range of international medical insurance policies and has established direct billing arrangements.
The hospital’s IT infrastructure is built on Nutanix AHV hyper-converged technology. Norvic has over 50 VMs that support essential operations, such as the ERP system, emails, websites, and both patient and doctor-related information.
Safeguarding this critical data is a key responsibility of the hospital, as any data loss could have severe financial and reputational repercussions. Implementing a reliable VM backup solution is essential for full data recovery when required, thereby ensuring continuity and reliability in patient care and hospital operations.
Historically, the hospital relied on manual backups and on a different VM backup solution. However, that backup solution no longer met Norvic’s evolving needs and could not address emerging cybersecurity challenges. With the increasing importance of data security, Norvic required a robust backup strategy to guarantee data safety.
In addition, managing backups was too time-consuming for the IT team, with manual interventions necessary for file-level backups and limited capabilities for granular data recovery. Additionally, offsite backup options were insufficient, and the need for a scalable backup solution was obvious.
Norvic selected Backup & Replication as their VM backup solution of choice for several reasons. The solution’s user-friendly interface combined with a set of features aligns with the hospital’s requirements for reliable backups, granular data recovery and versatile offsite backup capabilities. The straightforward architecture of Backup & Replication and the effortless deployment process further solidified the choice as the optimal solution. The product also excels in providing fast recovery with zero data loss, which is essential for maintaining uninterrupted patient care and operational efficiency.
Currently, the Nakivo solution is fully integrated into Norvic’s virtual environment. The hospital’s IT infrastructure benefits from regular VM backups that take place multiple times a day, tailored to the criticality of the data involved. The incremental Nutanix AHV backups in the Nakivo solution enable Norvic to optimize storage utilization and maintain a greater number of recovery points. This allows backups to be stored locally, while also being sent to public cloud platforms, ensuring that data is protected in multiple locations.
One of the standout features of the Nakivo solution is its ability to provide instant granular recovery, addressing a significant gap that the hospital previously faced. With Nakivo, the IT team can recover individual files and application objects directly to their source or an alternate location. Moreover, instant VM recovery allows the IT team to recover entire Nutanix AHV VMs, along with all associated data, in a matter of minutes.
Additionally, Nakivo offers a range of advanced administrative options specifically designed for Nutanix AHV environments. Thanks to the scheduling feature, the IT team can streamline workflows by automating tasks and ensuring that these tasks run.
The global search functionality also simplifies data management by making it easy to locate data protection items such as VMs, backups and repositories.
Backup & Replication further enhances data resilience by supporting a wide array of cloud platforms for offsite backups, including Amazon S3, Wasabi, Backblaze B2, Azure Blob and others. By leveraging these cloud options, Norvic can eliminate single points of failure and ensure continuous data availability, even in the event of onsite disruptions. This approach to data protection strengthens the hospital’s overall IT infrastructure, safeguarding critical patient and operational information.
By transitioning from manual backups to the Nakivo solution, Norvic met their key goals for enhanced data protection and reliable recovery. Previously, the hospital faced limitations with granular data recovery. However, with Nakivo, it can recover individual files and application objects, addressing a critical need in their data protection strategy. Offsite backup capabilities were also restricted before, but with Nakivo, Norvic can send backup copies to a variety of cloud platforms, ensuring robust data availability and DR readiness.
The IT team at Norvic has also benefited from the switch, as they no longer need to invest extensive time in managing backup processes. The range of administrative options in the Nakivo solution allows for simplified and streamlined backup management, automating routine tasks and reducing the need for manual interventions. This shift has not only improved efficiency but has also minimized the risk of errors in the backup process.
