From SNIA, SAS Roadmap Updates
Command duration limits, logical depopulation, rebuild assist for SSDs, persistent connections
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 24, 2024 at 2:01 pmThe SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) Roadmap was updated recently, defining key advancements in the technology’s future.
Highlights include:
- Command Duration Limits (CDLs): offers more control over HDD latencies
- Logical Depopulation (Depop): allows drives to degrade in place
- Rebuild Assist for SSDs: improves RAID rebuild times
- Persistent Connections: reduces overhead for higher performance.
Updates under consideration are:
- SPDM Capability for device authentication and security
- Protection Information (PI) fields for greater data reliability
- SAS continues to be a robust option for high-performance and scalable enterprise storage systems.
Notes:
- This roadmap shows the availability of prototypes and end-user products for each generation of SAS.
- Plugfest is an event where industry participants test their prototype products to confirm interoperability.
- End-user products typically become available approximately 12-18 months after the first Plugfest.
