History 2005: Wireless HDDs
Containing 20-to-60GB 1.8-inch device
By Jean Jacques Maleval | August 29, 2024 at 2:00 pmThe Data Storage Institute in Taiwan tried to find a buyer at the last CeBIT for its own technology, the Numida, a wireless HDD containing 20-to-60GB 1.8-inch HDD.
This will be a trend worth tracking, even if the transfer rate of the devices are, to date, very slow, only at 10Mb/s.
These past months, some companies like Asustek, Buffalo Technology, Iomega, LinkSys/ Cisco, Netgear, Tritton Technologies and Ximeta have launched this kind of wireless storage device, generally based on NAS. For the moment their potential is still to be proven because of the slow transfer rate of wireless interface.
