History 2002: Sanrise, Spectacular Start-Up’s Flop
After raising $203 million
By Jean Jacques Maleval | July 19, 2023 at 2:01 pmSanrise, based in Dublin, CA, raised $203 million, the current record for the 199 start-ups we counted, and this just one year after its inception in May 2000, including a second round that reaped no less than $115 million, with investors such as Brocade, Exodus, Hitachi, HDS, Sun and Veritas.
Originally an SSP, the company later tried to make itself over in storage management software. With 250 employees, the firm filed for Chapter XI bankruptcy on June 12.
