History 2002: LDIC Scoops Up One-Inch HDD Maker Halo Data Devices
That already ceased operations at end of 2001
By Jean Jacques Maleval | May 26, 2023 at 1:00 pmLacking funds and faced with design problems, Halo Data Devices, founded in 1999 in order to oversee the design and manufacture of one-inch HDDs that compete with IBM, had already ceased operations at the end of 2001.
For an undisclosed price, LDIC has acquired specific assets of Halo, including IP, inventory, etc., not only for 1-inch but also for 1.8-inch drives.
The San Jose, CA-based LSI Design & Integration is, among other things, a developer of VLSI chips for HDDs.
The company recently introduced a SATA PHY chip and reports that it is presently negotiating with several OEMs that are capable of producing 1-, 1.8-, and 2.5-inch HDDs.
