History 2001: Fujitsu Exits Desktop HDD Business
No remaining European HDD makers but IBM in Hungary
By Jean Jacques Maleval | April 7, 2023 at 2:00 pmFor over a year now, the Scottish HDD drive manufacturer Calluna Technology has been seeking a buyer or investors.
A search in vain, evidently, since the company has since given up.
Calluna thus definitively ceased production of 1.8-inch PCMCIA devices on June 15, and is currently only concerned with selling its stock of existing devices.
The company now employs only a skeletal staff, while a court-appointed administrator is proceeding to dispose of the assets.
With Calluna’s demise, there are no remaining European HDD makers, with only a single factory on the continent, operated by IBM in Hungary.
