History 2001: Mark Canepa, EVP, Sun Storage
To replace Janpieter Scheerder, retiring
By Jean Jacques Maleval | February 3, 2023 at 2:00 pmTo replace Janpieter Scheerder, who decided to retire from Sun Microsystems, Mark Canepa has been promoted EVP to lead the company’s network storage products group, reporting to president and COO Ed Zander.
Canepa most recently was VP and GM of Sun’s Internet desktop and server product group.
Despite a spree of heavy investment (with the acquisitions of Encore, MaxStrat, RedCape, Highground Systems, part of Dolphin Interconnect Solutions, etc.), Sun, which has a tendency not to want to offer its storage subsystems with anything but its own servers, has not yet become a heavyweight in the network storage industry.
This article is an abstract of news published on issue 160 on May 2001 from the former paper version of Computer Data Storage Newsletter.
Note: Canepa is currently management consultant, VP global services and support, at DataDirect Networks.
