Thecus NAS Ready for 22TB WD Red Pro HDDs
Storage system with up to 16 bays
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 7, 2022 at 2:02 pmThecus Technology Corp. announces that the WD Red Pro HDDs with 22TB can be used in every current Thecus NAS model.
These recently introduced HDDs offer the biggest capacity for NAS to date and are supported to expand Thecus NAS systems with up to 16 bays.
The WD Red Pro 22TB boosts the current series of 3.5-inch HDDs with higher capacities and is also designed and optimized for operation as NAS. Like the whole WD Red Pro lineup, it is engineered with CMR (conventional magnetic recording) technology at 7,200rpm to handle intensive workloads around the clock at high data transfer speeds for prosumers or enthusiasts, SMBs or enterprises and their large NAS environments.
The WD Red Pro 22TB features integrated 512MB buffer with 10 disks enclosed in sealed casing with helium to achieve this capacity and improve power efficiency – especially important when used in NAS with a high number of bays like Thecus rackmount models.
The firmware technology, NASware 3.0, enables integration, data protection and performance for NAS operating under heavy demand. It improves storage performance by increasing compatibility, integration, upgradeability, and reliability. To further confirm its reliability, Western Digital offers 5 years of limited warranty for the WD Red Pro series.
To achieve this storage capacity, Western Digital uses its own OptiNAND technology that boosts areal density to a 2.2TB per platter. The 6Gb SATA interface ensures compatibility and offers sustained data transfer rates of up to 269MB/s. To keep energy costs in check, the WD Red Pro 22TB uses less than 1.6W in standby mode and 4.1W idle power.
After compatibility testing with a large number of systems, the WD Red Pro 22TB (WD221KFGX) is drop-in ready for every current Thecus NAS (and even many older models) to expand capacities and satisfy any storage-needy application or environment.
