Abstract: “It is an honor and a challenge to be asked by Thomas Parisini to write a president’s invited column for IEEE Control Systems. It represents a big responsibility as well, especially as I am going to give an overview of a technology that might be perceived as controversial (mainly because it has been around for many years but continues to have a significant impact on our society).
