Infinidat Enhanced VMware Environments with NVMe/TCP and vVols Replication in InfiniBox Software

Capabilities complement firm’s VMware integrations that improve enterprise user experience throughout VMware software portfolio.

Infinidat Ltd. announced 2 capabilities to enhance VMware, Inc. infrastructures: NVMe/TCP certification with vSphere ESXi, and vVols replication with VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) integration.

Upon the general availability of the InfiniBox software release, the company will be one of the few providers with an enterprise storage solution certified with NVMe/TCP for VMware. These capabilities complement the firm’s extensive VMware integrations that improve the enterprise user experience throughout the VMware software portfolio, including vSphere, vRealize, and VMware Tanzu offerings.

Infinidat continues to enrich VMware environments with capabilities that add value, yet without adding costs, so it’s no wonder that the vast majority of our customers leverage our storage in their VMware environments,” said Erik Kaulberg, VP, strategy and alliances. “These new VMware features from Infinidat demonstrate our continued alignment with evolving VMware use cases, supporting growing production-grade vVols adoption and protocol modernization.”

NVMe/TCP certification for VMware environments
VMware’s general support of NVMe/TCP was a milestone reached less than a year ago with vSphere 7.0U3. NVMe/TCP is increasingly seen in the enterprise market as a natural upgrade from iSCSI, offering double-digit performance improvements for many workloads while minimizing new hardware requirements.

The company’s NVMe/TCP certification for VMware demonstrates the power of the InfiniBox software architecture, which was designed for multi-protocol use cases, offering FC, iSCSI, NFS, SMB and NVMe-oF as first-class peer protocols. All of these InfiniBox protocols are available without any extra licenses, regardless of backend media type. With NVMe-oF on the InfiniBox platform, customers get DRAM-led performance, whether they use InfiniBox systems with rotational backend media, or the InfiniBox SSA II that delivers latency as low as 35ms.

vVols Replication
InfiniBox vVols replication with VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) support adds VMware-native DR to the firm’s vVols implementation. VMware SRM users can coordinate efficient InfiniBox asynchronous replication for vVols via VMware Storage Policy-Based Management, without needing a separate Storage Replication Adapter (SRA). The company’s customers who are not using vVols can continue using the existing InfiniBox SRA to manage InfiniBox replication at no charge.

These capabilities will be available later this quarter with a InfiniBox software release available to all current customers.
