Car Manufacturer Chooses Infortrend and IO Datamovers

World’s leading automaker aimed to modernize IT infrastructure by replacing old storage systems used for enterprise storage and backup/archiving. They employed IO Datamovers as a system integrator to find a suitable solution able to provide a smooth access to enterprise data, quick backup, and data protection.

Challenges

IT department was constantly receiving complaints that the existing file server didn’t provide for employees fast enough file access (both read and write), especially to large files during peak hours.
Backup process took long hours and overlapped with work hours, which negatively affected overall productive performance of the company.
Data protection functionality of the existing outdated storage was insufficient to ensure non-stop data protection and integrity of enterprise data.

Solution
For the regional office and the factory, SI deployed 2 systems of enterprise unified SAN/NAS EonStor GS 1000 loaded with 20x4TB, 7.200rpm HDD (80TB total). The solution provided ease of management with stable performance. IT manager doesn’t receive any more complaints from employees: GS solved the main issue of slow access to files and improved performance of server’s full backup to within minutes, whereas previous storage required overnight backup or even longer, sometimes overlapping with production hours. The file server is accessed by around 120 users and is shared across all departments, including sales, marketing, finance, operation, logistics, and their factory production site. At least 50% faster file access greatly contributes to improving user productivity. For marketing team, it helps with meeting deadlines in creating advertisement materials, for drawing and design professionals – with sharing files with related users on production site/office, while making sure company’s know-how is protected with properly structured user authentication and file access rights.
