Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN Selects Zadara
As cloud supplier to power a second season
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 8, 2022 at 2:00 pmZadara, Inc. and Sauber Motorsport AG, which manages and operates the Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN in the Formula One world championship, announced their continued partnership for a second season, with Zadara serving as official cloud supplier.
Zadara’s edge cloud technology enables Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN to maximize its performance on the track with cloud services providing simultaneous access to real-time, data-driven insights in the driver’s seat, in the paddock, and in the team’s factory in Hinwil, Switzerland.
A race team has to deal with many aspects of data, from trackside data to design and business systems, all of which need to be readily available across multiple locations. Fast access to this data and data protection for the long term is critical as the season evolves. Zadara enables low latency, high-speed access to critical systems, leading to the instantaneous analysis that gives the team a competitive edge. Additionally, itd edge cloud technology enables dynamic scalability, allowing the Sauber Motorsport team to consume resources on a just-in-time, as-needed basis.
“Zadara’s cloud services dramatically streamline our cloud infrastructure, while enhancing performance, improving latency and putting real-time race data at our fingertips,” said Jan Monchaux, technical director, Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN. “This ability is extremely important in a sport where the difference between winning and losing can come down to just a millisecond. We depend on our cloud technology partnership with Zadara to deliver performance on and off the track by ensuring access to the right data – right when we need it.“
The new Zadara-sponsored Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN car, the C42, was revealed on February 27, along with team drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu. Zadara brings new technology this season as the first cloud vendor to enable use of the fast ISER interface with VMware compute.
A win for the race team, ISER, or iSCSI Extensions for RDMA, is a data interface that uses high-speed Ethernet connectivity to transfer data directly between storage devices and application memory. Utilizing RDMA data access protocols enables better performance and lower latency, delivering more capabilities with the same physical components, akin to what a turbocharger does for a car. A performing multi data center stretch cluster enables protection and performance at scale while snapshot replication and recovery makes rapid recovery from errors or failures possible. Additionally, immutable object storage enables ransomware protection strategies to be implemented.
“We are ecstatic to continue our support of the Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN as they enter a new era. Success in F1 requires a solid infrastructure, innovative car design, great drivers and high-performance levels across all three of these elements. By delivering cloud capabilities at the edge, Zadara is driving performance improvements through technology,” said Nelson Nahum, CEO and co-founder, Zadara.
