History (1998): EMC Symmetrix Doubling Capacity at 6TB

By Jean Jacques Maleval | January 11, 2022 at 2:01 pmEMC Corp. has doubled the maximum capacity of its high-end Symmetrix 5700/3700 enterprise storage subsystem, delivering 6TB, thanks to the use of 128 Seagate Technology Elite 47GB 5.25-inch drives, all of which occupy a floor space of 17.3 square feet.
According to EMC, it’s the highest capacity disk storage system in the world and the first implementing these 47GBe devices.
Prices for the new Symmetrix range from $1,000,000 to $4,700,000.
