2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Primary Storage

Here is a small abstract of a report from Gartner, Inc., Magic Quadrant for Primary Storage published on October 1, 2021, also announced in press releases by several companies considered as leaders including Hitachi Vantara, Infinidat, Huawei, Dell, NetApp and Pure Storage

Strategic Planning Assumptions by 2025:

• More than 40% of all on-premises IT storage administration and support activities will be replaced by managed-storage-as-a-service, which is an increase from fewer than 5% in 2021.
• More than 70% of corporate, enterprise-grade storage capacity will be deployed as consumption-based offerings, which is an increase from less than 40% in 2021.
• 30% of external enterprise storage arrays deployed to support primary storage workloads will adopt NVMe-oF, compared with fewer than 5% in 2021.

As you can see, the 8 leaders are the same in 2020 and 2021. Formerly challenger, Fujitsu is now considered as a niche player and Zadara is added into this category where Oracle disappears.
