History (1997): Average Capacity per HDD From 1.2GB in 1996 to 2.2GB in 1997

According to an analysis by Dataquest, average capacity on HDDs sold in 1996 hit 1.2GB, while the figure nearly doubled in 1997.

There’s been an appreciable acceleration since 1995, with a trend pushing close to a 60% increase per year.

At this rate, the average drive capacity in the year 2000 should be roughly 10GB.
