Hologram Manufacturer MTM Security in Turkey Selects Nakivo

Nakivo, Inc. announced that MTM A.Ş (MTM Security) has selected its Backup & Replication to protect their environment.

MTM, located in Kocaeli, Turkey, was established in 1997 as the country’s first hologram manufacturer. It is involved in the origination and production of holographic materials for security and brand authentication applications.

By January 1, 2006, the company had established a technology printing facility. Its novelty lies in the fact that all the steps of hologram manufacturing and printing are done in one place.

Its IT environment consists of 5 physical servers, 110 VMs, and 35 physical workstations. The environment is projected to grow further in the nearest future. VMs store domain controllers, databases, file servers, and specific applications that assist in holographic manufacturing.

The IT environment supports manufacturing process from hologram creation to production. In order to achieve what is known as lean operations, MTM needs all data and applications to run without any interruptions. Otherwise, the company risks losing its customers and revenue.

A while ago, it relied on different VM backup solutions available on the market. The main issue encountered with them was time-consuming backups. For example, to backup 6TB of data with one of the VM backup tools, a full backup required 15 hours, while an incremental backup took 10 hours.

With another backup tool, a full backup needed 5 hours, and the incremental backup 2 hours. Moreover, both solutions used too much disk space for reading/writing. The IT team also had to continuously check the HDDs, oversee the backup progress status, and monitor successful or failed backup jobs.

Besides, MTM was not happy with the failed recoveries. After 2 years of being disappointed with performance and stability, they decided to replace this solution as well.

MTM Security’s criteria for the new product were affordability, ease-of-use, as well as competent and responsive technical support. “Currently, the product is installed on a NAS server,” says Selen. “What makes Backup & Replication awesome for us is that the upgrade process is extremely simple. We never had to restart the whole server to upgrade the product. We want new features all the time, and we do not want to wait for days to be updated, so Backup & Replication rocks in this department.“

MTM Security takes advantage of VM backup, replication, and recovery. With VM backup, the company has managed to boost backup performance.

“With  Backup & Replication, 6TB of data gets backed up in only 41mn. The difference in performance is huge, as we went from almost five hours to just 41 minutes. Backup & Replication uses LAN-free data transfer mode for backup, and not only boosts the speed but also lowers the load on our network,” says Selen.

VM replication jobs take 30mn to complete, due to disk capacity differences.

“VM replication jobs are extremely easy. All I need to do is select a VM and then select a target. VM replication saves time in terms of administration and costs,” says Selen.

Lastly, VM recovery does not fail anymore, and even if an error occurs, it returns to the last recovery point. So, there is no need to stop the software.

“I used many VM recovery products in the past, but Backup & Replication is superb in terms of recovery capabilities,” he says.
