History (1995): After Conner, Seagate in China to Assemble HDDs

Investment of $30 million in 50,000 square-foot facility in Jiangsu province

Seagate Technology (Scotts Valley, CA) is making a capital investment of $30 million in a new 50,000 square-foot facility in Jiangsu province, Republic of China.

More precisely, the plant will be built in the Wuxi-Singapore Industrial Park, located just outside of Wuxi, an agglomeration of 4.4 million people located about halfway between Shanghai and the city of Nanjing.

It is the beginning of a long-term effort to increase our presence in China,” said the company.

Operational in mid-95, the new PRC plant will perform final assembly of HDDs to meet the Pacific Rim demand, including the growing Chinese market.

Conner Peripherals was the first company to build disk drive manufacturing operations in the People’s Republic of China more than 2 years ago, Conner Shenzhen Peripherals Ltd. established as a joint venture with Shenzhen CPC.
