History (1994): Western Digital Opens Factory in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
To manufacture Caviar 3.5-inch HDDs
By Jean Jacques Maleval | February 11, 2021 at 1:20 pmWestern Digital (Irvine, CA) has just opened a factory in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to manufacture its full line of Caviar 3.5-inch drives.
This new plant, housed in the company’s former semiconductor packaging facility, will add to the already existing output from the Singapore facility.
The Malaysian plant will initially be capable of manufacturing a half million units per quarter, as a supplement to the current 2.1 million unit quarterly capacity in Singapore.
