History (1994): HP and IBM Abandon HDD Manufacturing Plants in UK

By Jean Jacques Maleval | February 9, 2021 at 2:12 pmHewlett-Packard’s factory in Bristol, UK, currently has a 3.5- inch, 1 and 2GB drive assembly line that will cease production around the middle of 1995, when the new generation of 3.5-inch drives begin at the Boise, ID and Penang, Malaysia plants.
The Bristol line employs 100 people and has a maximum production capacity of only 9,000 per month.
For it’s part, IBM has just announced its decision to sell its plant in Havant, UK.
