Accelerating adoption of blockchain storage – From Web2 to Web3
Storing data on blockchain networks requires a degree of technical friction. This includes standing up traditional compute and storage infrastructure, purchasing cryptocurrency, and synchronizing blockchain data, which can sometimes take days.

Recognizing these issues, the company has built its managed object storage platform, which offers a Web2 to Web3 translation layer that features an S3 Compatible API. Data flows through the firm’s platform and is placed onto the blockchain storage network of the users choosing, providing them with freedom of choice and decentralized access to their data. This managed offering also eliminates the requirement of cryptocurrency procurement and businesses can pay with a credit card.

The firm originally launched in May 2019 with an integration built on top of the Sia network, which served as their first decentralized storage backend.

David Vorick, CEO and co-founder, Skynet Labs, Sia’s parent company, said: “We were excited to see Filebase build an S3 layer on top of Sia, bringing our low cost, high power infrastructure to a much wider audience than before.

Onboarding additional networks as the Filebase platform grows in scale gives the company additional storage capacity for their customers. This announcement also includes an integration with the Storj Labs, Inc.’s network, expanding capacity for the company.

We are delighted to partner with the Filebase team and look forward to working with them to evolve and mature the decentralized storage ecosystem. Our partnership enables our joint users to quickly and easily onramp their data onto our Tardigrade service and take advantage of the security, performance, and resiliency we offer,” said Ben Golub, CEO, Storj Labs.

The Sia and Storj networks both store data in a geographically redundant manner, and feature replication and encryption enabled by default. The net result is one storage bucket on the Filebase platform is equal to 3 regionally distributed buckets on a traditional cloud, such as AWS.

Adding the Storj network to our platform further enhances our goal of scaling Filebase horizontally while helping to grow the decentralized storage ecosystem.” said Joshua Noble, CEO and co-founder, Filebase. “We’re making it seamless for enterprises to onboard data to these cutting-edge Web3 storage networks using standard Web2 protocols.

Moving forward, the company looks to support additional storage networks as they grow their offering. Plans for private on-premise cloud solutions that leverage decentralized technology are also in the works.
