This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 25, 2019 at 2:25 pmSupercomputing 2019 (SC19), more precisely The International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis, is the biggest WW show for HPC and now also for storage.
HPC is a big and growing market as some companies need very fast computing associated with vast storage capacities, and now not only for universities and R&D centers, with the growth of technologies like the IoT, AI and 3D imaging.
Hyperion Research forecasts it will reach $44 billion in 2023, compared with $39 billion for 2019. Mondor Intelligence values the market at $33.45 billion in 2018 and is expected to reach $47 billion by 2024, a CAGR of 7% from 2019 to 2024.
Here are the predictions of Tractica:
The most recent SC19 took place on November 18-21, 2019, in Denver, CO.
A lot of the biggest IT companies were on the floor including AWS, Dell, Fujistu, Google, HPE, IBM, Intel, NEC, Nvidia and Oracle, not including many firms in storage only.
In today’s news, we publishes 24 press releases on storage revealed especially during the show, and below 7 other ones already edited on our web site, for a huge total of 31, just for one event.
The technology of Mellanox, being acquired by Nvidia for $6.9 billion to combine computing and connectivity for HPC , is included in the vast majority news. It’s not surprising as it’s without a doubt the leader in high speed IB and Ethernet connectivity, especially for HPCs, with a near monopoly being largely in front of only one competitor, Intel.
The Mellanox’s IB and Ethernet interfaces connect 297 systems, or 59% of overall Top500 platforms, demonstrating 12% growth Y/Y, from November 2018 to November 2019.
