IBC: GB Labs FastNAS Storage Systems With 25GbE Connectivity
25GbE-enabled FastNAS with CORE.4 OS, custom OS designed to serve media files with additional intelligence layers
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 17, 2019 at 2:26 pmGB Labs Ltd. showcased acceleration of its FastNAS storage systems with the introduction of 25GbE connectivity at IBC 2019.
Dominic Harland, CEO-CTO, GB Labs, said: “The current LC fibre link speed capability is approximately 10Gb. That may be OK for some, but to take further advantage of the speed and power of what our FastNAS storage already offers, we have connectivity that ascends to 25GbE, which delivers a proven 2.3GB from server to desktop and is running on LC cables. In short, there is no more metaphoric waiting around. In addition, 25GbE FastNAS can use existing LC FC cabling infrastructures, meaning there are fewer additional technologies to deploy or infrastructure to tear down and rebuild.“

The centre piece of the 25GbE-enabled FastNAS is its CORE.4 OS, a performance, custom OS designed to serve media files with additional intelligence layers that deliver stability and QoS.
Harland added: “CORE.4 turned out to be so powerful that we soon discovered 10GbE fibre was actually a bottleneck, but no longer. With FastNAS at 25GbE, users can fully exploit the benefits of 25GbE, especially for 4K workflows.“
FastNAS 8 Nitro Studio
FastNAS media production storage systems are available in a range of configurations, including FastNAS F8 Nitro GO; FastNAS 8 Nitro Studio; FastNAS F8 Nitro; FastNAS F16; and FastNAS F16 Nitro – all of which take advantage of new connectivity speeds and reliability.
The FastNAS range begins shipping in 25GbE configurations at IBC 2019. Optional dual-25GbE port versions are available on most models and is backward compatible with 10GbE.
