Google to Acquire Nutanix?

Pivot3's comments

MilneFollowing the news, Google (Alphabet) Could Acquire Nutanix for $9 Billion, published yesterday: here is a comment send to us from Bruce Milne, CMO and GM, Lenovo alliance, Pivot3, Inc.:

“Alphabet’s fundamental premise is that storage, applications, intelligence and business logic should be in the cloud, and they’ve invested enormous sums to create loss-leader products such as email, productivity apps, photo storage and even cloud-dependent hardware in order to create a pull-market for more cloud services.

Acquiring an on-premises solution such as Nutanix would be an interesting move, as their explicit goal has been to convince enterprises to give up on the notion of private clouds altogether.

One likely scenario is that Google – never one to emulate directly nor acquire what they could reinvent in-house – could create an on-prem offering to act as a conduit for driving more content and apps to the cloud. A free, sacrificial array or platform could host data and applications up to a point, but ultimately recommend or automatically implement bursting to the Google Cloud.

This speculation signals the market’s incredible trust in the promise of HCI and private cloud, and the reality that industry giants are spotting a gap in their solution portfolio. We see this every day as customers turn to us seeking greater security, resilience and management simplicity at scale for their most mission-critical environments, and we look forward to seeing our market continue to grow and evolve.”
