History (1989): B+F Microdisks, Joint Venture Between BASF and Fuji
To manufacture floppy disks in USA
By Jean Jacques Maleval | July 16, 2019 at 1:53 pmFuji and some other Japanese FD manufacturers were assigned by the US Commerce Department to antidumping duties in March and Sony’s tax was the highest followed by Fuji Photo Film (50.52%).
This apparently has nothing to do with Fuji’s decision of forming a 50/50% joint-venture with BASF to build a $48 million FD manufacturing plant in USA. Production should begin next Fall in a new company, B+F Microdisks, that is going to build a 75,000 square-foot facility with 230 employees to produce 90 million FDs a year. The two partners will sell diskettes in the U.S. coming from the same plant.
