History (1989): JVC Into 2.5-Inch HDD, After PrairieTek

By Jean Jacques Maleval | July 8, 2019 at 2:31 pmLast November, at Las Vegas’ Comdex, PrairieTek (Longmont, CO) was the first company to announce a 2.5-inch HDD (20MB, 28ms access time, 1.6 to 1.7W power consumption).
Victor Company of Japan (JVC) revealed that in the second quarter it will be able to ship a 2.5-inch HDD, the model JD-E2825P, also offering 20MB of capacity and weighing 215g, a 23ms access time and a 1.2W consumption while operating. The model is powered by 5V/DC batteries.
JVC will supply at the same time a new 3.5-inch HDD, the 40MB JD-E3848V weighing 410g with a 25ms access time and using 1.5W.
