Subsidiary of DRI Holdings Group of Companies, Newbury Data (UK) is announcing new, fast access 5.25-inch HDDs.
In the first of a series of performance enhancements planned for 1988, Newbury Data is extending its range of drives to include 175MB and 380MB drives with access time of 19ms.
With a data transfer rate of 10MHz, the drives are available with ESDI and SCSI interfaces.
The units are already in production at the company’s manufacturing facility in Winsford, Cheshire, England.
The new 4000S disk drives are designed to meet the performance and capacity demands of Unix multi-user systems, PC networks and CAD/CAM workstations.
The enhancements have been made to proven 4000 ESDI and 3000 SCSI drive designs which Newbury Data has been shipping for over a year.
The faster access times have been achieved through the introduction of a low mass, one piece head positioner coupled with optimisation of the servo system.
At the end of the year, a NewburyData’s spokesman stated that these HDDs would reach a 16ms access time at a 15MHz data transfer rate.
