Data I/O LumenX V1.6 Programming Platform

Doubles download speed and support next-gen microcontrollers.

Data I/O Corporation announces version 1.6 of the LumenX programming platform.

This upgrade delivers better download performance, provides more flexibility and establishes foundational support for the latest generation of microcontroller (MCU) architectures.

LumenX is already the highest performance programming platform in the industry,” said Anthony Ambrose, president and CEO, Data I/O. “However, we are acutely aware that next generation microcontroller and flash memory architectures will continue to move towards larger image sizes and faster programming requirements. The programming demands for new microcontroller families will require a combination of data programming performance and secure provisioning that only Data I/O can deliver.

Increased edge processing, along with security, is driving the need for more on-chip storage,” said Jack Ogawa, senior director, marketing, IoT compute and wireless business unit, Cypress Semiconductor Corp.Cypress’ new PSoC 6 MCU with 2MB of flash and 1MB of SRAM addresses this need. In conjunction, we chose to work with Data I/O and their partner Secure Thingz to enable a high-performance volume programming and provisioning solution that is fast and equally accessible to all customers.

In addition to a variety of flash memory interfaces such as Embedded Multi-Media Controller (eMMC) and Universal Flash Storage (UFS), LumenX version 1.6 also supports popular microcontroller interfaces such as Serial Wire Debug (SWD) and Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART).

Automotive and industrial markets are experiencing a rapid increase in image size as more and more features are integrated into a single microcontroller device. Version 1.6 doubles the speed at which an image can be downloaded to the programmer from 25MB/s to 50MB/s, decreasing downtime and improving efficiency. In addition, new microcontroller families such as the PSoC 6 can be provisioned with security credentials. It combines support for data programming and secure provisioning into one programming platform.

LumenX version 1.6 also supports Dynamic Data Injection, which, in addition to standard programming, allows a customer to inject a large amount of unique data into each and every programmed device. This capability is useful in applications where serialization requirements exceed a simple serial number.

Existing LumenX programming systems can be upgraded to version 1.6 and is available free of charge to the company’s customers with current support contracts.
