Toshiba N502 UHS-II Exceria Pro SD Cards

32 to 256 GB, minimum data transfer speed of 90MB/s, 270MB/s and 260MB/s maximum RW speed

Toshiba Memory Europe GmbH announced the N502, a family of UHS-II EXCERIA PRO SD cards, created to meet the demands of the latest digital cameras and allow the recording of both 4K and 8K video and supporting continuous shooting.

Toshiba Exceria Pro N502 SD Card

The family provides a minimum data transfer speed of 90MB/s [2], a maximum read speed of 270MB/s and a maximum write speed of 260MB/s [1], an equivalent of Video Speed class 90; UHS Speed Class 3 or SD Speed Class 10.

The N502 joins the company’s UHS-I SD cards: the N401 EXCERIA PRO and the N203. The UHS-II family of SD cards has a write speed 2.5 times [3] the N401 EXCERIA PRO, and ten times [3] the N301 EXCERIA.

Available in 32, 64, 128 and 256 GB [4] options, the N502 EXCERIA PRO can hold up to 2,540 photos in RAW data format [5], or 220 minutes of 4K video at 30 fps [6]. Under internal testing, the N502 was able to transfer 1,000×1.5MB images to a PC in 26.38s [7], and was able to write RAW image files from a full buffer to the SD card in 8.6s [3] [8].

The N502 SD card measures 32x24x2.1mm, and weighing approximately 2g, is X-ray proof [9], and has an operating temperature range of -25°C to +85°C [10]. It comes with a five (5) year warranty.

The N502 SD card has been qualified with Blackmagic Design Pty. Ltd. for use in its professional standard URSA Mini Pro camera.

[1] 1MB is calculated as 1,000,000 bytes/s. Maximum data transfer speed, when used with a recommended UHS-II device. These values are the best values obtained in specific test environment at Toshiba Memory Corporation and Toshiba Memory Corporation neither warrant read nor write speed use in individual devices. Read and write speed may vary depending on user-specifications such as devices used and file size read or written. The transfer speeds of legacy SD and UHS-I interfaces are lower than that of the UHS-II interface.
[2] 4K/8K video recording operation may vary depending on devices you use and other factors such as file attributes and/or size. A data transfer speed is based on the result measured under the conditions regulated by SD association. A Video Speed Class 90 SD memory card provides minimum R/W data transfer speeds of 90MB/s, when used with a recommended UHS-II device.
[3] Based on the results of tests conducted by Toshiba Memory Corporation using the FujiFilm X-T2. Test conditions: FINE+RAW and RAW picture-quality modes, uncompressed, L (6,000×4,000) picture size, CH continuous shooting mode. The write speed depends on user-specifications such as devices used and file size to be written. For read and write speeds, 1MB/s is calculated as 1,000,000 bytes/s.
[4] Capacity is based on installed flash memory and not user available memory as part of the memory is used for management functions. About usable capacity (available user area), please check each product (1GB is calculated as 1,073,741,824 bytes).
[5] These results are based on the calculations by Toshiba Memory Corporation. Calculated assuming photos are taken using a Nikon D850 with a shooting range of FX (36?24) and RAW picture-quality mode (uncompressed RAW/14-bit recording) and a per-frame file size of approximately 92.0MB. Since the data volume depends on the subject and shooting conditions, the number of photos that can fit in an SD card varies.
[6] 3,840×2,160 (4K UHD) 30p, Calculated assuming that single movie has been recorded at 144Mb/s. Approximate playtime which can be stored. Actual time depends on the movie device, resolution and compression rate. 1Mb/s=1,000,000Mb/s.
[7] These results are based on Toshiba Memory Corporation tested measurement. Measured by connecting USB reader/writer (BUFFALO BSCR20TU3) to TOSHIBA Laptop PC (model number: PR63PBAA637AD71) with Intel Corei5-5300U processor (2.30GHz), 4GB DDR3L-1600 SDRAM, Windows 7 Professional (32bit) OS. Photo size per one shot with 5 million pixels is approximately 1.5MB.
[8] Period of time required from when the camera buffer becomes full until the camera stops accessing the SD card.
[9] ISO7816-1 equivalent. According to the ISO7816-1 standard, the product can function after exposure with 0.1 Gy of X-ray.
[10] This is based on Toshiba Memory Corporation’s test results. The operation in all the situations is not warranted.
