SANS Digital: SED Drives for EliteNAS 12G Series Unified/Hybrid NAS/iSCSI Systems

Supports 12G bSAS, 6Gb SATA HDDs/SSD, 2U/8-bay, 2U/12-bay, 3U/16-bay, 4U/24-bay, 4U/36-bay, 8U/48-bay, 8U/72-bay.

SANS Digital Technology, Inc. announced the support of Self-Encrypting Drives (SED) on the EliteNAS 12G series unified/hybrid NAS/iSCSI storage solutions.

EliteNAS EN424L12

The EliteNAS SED feature can be used to automatically and continuously encrypt data written on SED approved HDDs without any user interaction. It feature is easy to use and manage with minimal impact on RAID, NAS, or SAN performance and is transparent to the user allowing for uninterrupted workflow.

The EliteNAS SED function allows another added level of peace of mind by securing the volume data from unauthorized access or modification in the event of HDD theft, HDD servicing, and the decommission or re-purposing of drives. With the EliteNAS SED feature enabled, written data are always encrypted and the encryption keys are also encrypted and protected within the EliteNAS hardware and cannot be accessed by other parts of the system. Local encryption key management is embedded in the company’s hardware and is designed to protect data from security breaches with minimal cost and complexity.

EliteNAS EN872L12

SEDs do all the cryptography within the EliteNAS, which means the disk encryption keys are never present in the RAID controller or memory, where they could be accessed by hackers. Encryption will conceal your volume’s data and make accessing the files almost impossible for anyone who does not have access to SED key. With this scramble process, no one can see or access into the hidden volume data without access key adding yet another critically important feature into the EliteNAS.

The EliteNAS SED feature is available.
