ViON Brings Storage to University of Wisconsin

To support backup for CIOs across entire university system

ViON Corporation, a cloud service provider in delivery and maintenance of mission-critical IT infrastructure solutions, announced it has been selected as a preferred partner by the University of Wisconsin (UW) to support storage and backup for CIOs across the university system.

The partnership enables ViON to provide switches, tapes and tape libraries in addition to a range of storage technologies from Oracle, Fujitsu and Hitachi to the university’s 26 campuses statewide.

The University of Wisconsin is one of the largest systems of public higher education in the country and their IT operation has a significant impact on the 180,000 students they serve each year,” explained Tom Frana, ViON CEO and chairman. “This presents a tremendous opportunity to bring next generation storage and backup technology to CIOs throughout the system who want to modernize their infrastructure affordably while increasing performance for future growth.

The UW educates approximately 180,000 students on 26 campuses, and serves more than one million citizens through statewide extension programs. The system’s campuses in Madison and Milwaukee offer both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including doctoral and professional programs. Eleven campuses provide students both undergraduate and master’s degree programs in smaller, more individualized academic settings. The system is responsible for an economic Impact of more than $15 billion annually.
