Updated Zcopy Ultra for Recovering Encrypted Data From SSDs by Ace Data Recovery

Based on Seagate SandForce controllers with technology for recovering data from failed SSDs even with damaged metadata

ACE Data Recovery(ACE Data Group, LLC.) has released an update to their ZCOPY Ultra that is used to read, reconstruct, restore, and recover encrypted data from SSDs that are based on the Seagate Technology plc‘s SandForce controllers.

This update to ZCOPY Ultra enhances our customers’ experience by adding support for highly secure AES-128 and AES-256 hardware encryption formats used by the SandForce’s SSD controllers,” said Don Wells, GM, ACE Data Recovery. “SandForce controllers are used by a large number of SSD manufacturers including WD-SanDisk, Toshiba-OCZ, Intel, Kingston, Corsair, PNY, Adata.

The majority of the SSD and HDD manufacturers use a hardware based full drive encryption by default to prevent an unauthorized access to the data with SandForce being one of the first to implement such encryption in all their controllers. Naturally, hardware-based encryption severely hinders the data recovery process in case of a SSD or HDD drive failure.

Under the partnership with SandForce, the company has developed a technology for recovering data from failed SSDs even with damaged metadata (also known as a ‘panic mode’). ZCOPY Ultra’s hardware component provides the ability to read an SSD’s NAND chips into raw dumps or images. The software component is then able to rebuild the entire SSD from the individual raw dumps to a standard LBA format accessible by OSs and applications.
