Qnap TS-x77 Series Tower NAS With AMD Ryzen Processor
6, 8, and 12-bay, with Ryzen 7 1700 eight cores 16 threads 3.0GHz processor or Ryzen 5 1600 six cores 12 threads 3.2GHz processor
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 7, 2017 at 2:31 pmQnap Systems, Inc. joined forces with Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) to roll out its first Ryzen-based NAS, the business TS-x77 series (available in six, eight, and twelve bay models).
Featuring processors with up to eight-cores/16-threads (with Turbo Core up to 3.7 GHz), SSD caching, and with support for graphics cards, the TS-x77 delivers processing power for driving resource-demanding applications such as VDI, server virtualization, private cloud, and 4K video playback/transcoding.
The TS-x77 series includes models with AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (8-cores/16-threads) and Ryzen 5 1600 (6-cores/12-threads) processors that support AES-NI encryption acceleration and up to 64GB DDR4 RAM. Two M.2 6Gb SATASSD slots are provided for cache acceleration or performance storage pools. Every model in the series provides USB 3.1 Gen2 10Gb/s Type-A and Type-C ports, and three PCIe slots for expansion potential. Supported PCIe devices include a graphics card, 10GbE/40GbE NICs, PCIe NVMe SSD, USB 3.1 expansion cards, and QM2 cards (that add additional M.2 SSDs or 10GbE connectivity). Incorporating performance, reliability and scalability, the TS-x77 series provides a storage solution for diverse business IT environments.

“We are very excited about our partnership with AMD to launch the world’s first Ryzen NAS. Harnessing the tremendous multi-core and multi-threading performance of Ryzen processors underscores Qnap’s dedication for evolving the NAS industry and allows the TS-x77 series to fuel processor-demanding business applications,” said Y.T. Lee, VP, Qnap. “The TS-x77 also provides high flexibility in expansion for network bandwidth, GPU-accelerated features and storage capacity, making it an excellent fit for businesses and professionals.”
“We are pleased to continue our relationship with Qnap in providing high-performance NAS solutions for rigid business IT environments,” said Dan Bounds, senior director, enterprise products, AMD. “With its exceptional speed, performance, and low power consumption, the AMD Ryzen processors featuring Zen core architecture presents the most-advanced AMD embedded processors to date and has the potential to be a game-changer in the high-performance SMB NAS market segment.“
The TS-x77 series multi-threading advantages are suited for virtualization – in a LoginVSI test environment the TS-1277 is capable of running up to 16 VMs simultaneously. They are virtualization-ready for VMware, Citrix, Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows Server 2012 R2 environments with the support of iSER (iSCSI Over RDMA). It can host VMs and containers as an all-in-one server, and supports snapshots and VM backups for all-in-one virtualization management. The TS-x77 will also support the upcoming Virtual QTS that enables users to run multiple virtual QTS systems on a single NAS, to provide resources segregation (CPU, memory, networking) benefits, flexible application deployment, and savings on energy, cost and space.

TS-x77 series supports RAID-50/60 to provide data protection and random write performance, striking a balance between capacity, protection and performance. The latest Qtier 2.0 adds IO Aware capabilities for SSD tiered storage to keep a cache-like reserved space to handle burst I/O in real time, maximizing the cost-to-performance value.
Running the intelligent QTS 4.3 OS, the TS-x77 series is a storage solution for storage, backup/restoration, sharing and management. The built-in QTS App Center includes hundreds of install-on-demand apps to extend NAS functionality while increasing productivity gains: the QRM+ centralized management solution features graphic topology diagrams for managing Windows, Linux, and IPMI devices; Qcenter consolidates the management of multiple company’s NAS; QVPN integrates settings of VPN server and VPN clients; Browser Station enables secure and convenient access to private networks; Surveillance Station provides a professional video surveillance solution; QIoT Suite Lite builds a private IoT cloud platform.
