HPE Extending Composability to Cloud and Hyper-Converged Solutions
Synergy with Helion CloudSystem 10 and hyper-converged enhancements powered by composable technologies help make hybrid IT simple.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 9, 2016 at 2:39 pmHewlett Packard Enterprise Development LP (HPE) announced an expansion of its composable initiative with the addition of a hybrid cloud offering and technology extensions to company’s hyper-converged systems.
Synergy system
By extending Synergy‘s fully programmable infrastructure to firm’s multi-cloud platform and through software enhancements to the Hyper Converged 380, the company is enabling IT operators to deliver software-defined infrastructure as quickly as customers’ businesses demand.
These solutions include:
-
Synergy with Helion CloudSystem 10 brings full composability across compute, storage and fabric to firm’s OpenStack technology-based hybrid cloud platform to enable customers to run bare metal, virtualized, containerized and cloud-native applications on a single infrastructure and dynamically compose and recompose resources for unmatched agility and efficiency.
-
Hyper Converged Operating Environment software update leverages composable technologies to deliver capabilities to the Hyper Converged 380, including workspace controls that allow IT managers to compose and recompose virtualized resources for different lines of business, making it easier and more efficient for IT to act as an internal service provider to their organization.
“Customers’ business needs can change quite rapidly, and they need an infrastructure platform that can support that rapid change,” said Ric Lewis, SVP and GM, software-defined datacenter and cloud, HPE. “With HPE Synergy we delivered a new class of infrastructure providing the speed, efficiency and flexibility of the public cloud on-premises, so IT can focus on being an internal service provider instead of maintaining infrastructure. Now we’re extending composable infrastructure to our cloud and hyper-converged offerings, making hybrid IT simple for customers.“
Today’s enterprise developers are increasingly building new, cloud native applications using more agile microservices and containers. At the same time they are transforming traditional applications to ‘as-a-service’ models, requiring an infrastructure that can support both operating environments. Synergy delivers a composable infrastructure platform, treating infrastructure as code, enabling developers to accelerate application delivery. It has nearly 100 early access customers that have implemented it across a variety of industries, and is now available for order in all regions.
“In order to meet the ever-changing needs of our mobile, television and broadband customers across Europe, our organization turned to HPE for help,” Colin Miles, VP, datacentre technology, Liberty Global Plc said. “As a HPE Synergy early access customer, our team was able to quickly explore the innovative solution to help us deliver infrastructure as code, working towards giving us the cloud-like experience we were looking for in our datacentre.“

Synergy with Helion CloudSystem 10
providing private cloud built on composable infrastructure
Synergy with Helion CloudSystem 10 gives organizations the ability to operate a single IT environment on-premises that supports both traditional applications and cloud-native applications. IT operators now have the ability to compose resources in minutes, making it easier for enterprises to migrate from traditional to hybrid IT. Through better management automation and improved infrastructure utilization customers can deliver more effective cloud services at lower cost.
Synergy and Helion CloudSystem 10 both incorporate OneView, company’s infrastructure automation management software, providing the ability to discover, manage and designate infrastructure resources using a single, unified interface. This enables more efficient infrastructure utilization by empowering IT to target the right infrastructure for the right workloads, accelerating development cycles while maintaining control and compliance.
In addition, customers can take advantage of the ecosystem the company has developed through the Composable Infrastructure Partner Program. This includes with partnerships based on tools like Chef, Docker, SaltStack and Puppet, as well as traditional partners like Microsoft, VMware, SUSE and Red Hat through integration with the OneView API.
Synergy with Helion CloudSystem 10 will be available from the company and channel and distribution partners in the first quarter of calendar year 2017.
Hyper Converged 380
Hyper-Converged Operating Environment:
delivering composable management capabilities for hyper converged systems
The firm’s Hyper Converged Operating Environment software update introduces composable management capabilities to the Hyper Converged 380, an all-in-one software-defined virtualization solution. The enhancements enable IT operators to become an internal service provider to their organization’s different lines of business, delivering virtualized applications with cloud efficiency.
The update introduces new multi-tenant workspaces that enable IT operators to compose and recompose virtualized environments instantly from a single resource pool. Now IT managers can provide for an individual’s or workgroup’s immediate use based on their needs and allowing line of business managers to more efficiently utilize resources available to them. The update also integrates analytics, providing IT managers with insights to ensure that required resources are available when needed and to predict future needs, so IT can add capacity before developers even know they need it.
As an internal service provider, IT can provide a self- service portal, making it easier for lines of business to access the resources they need to develop and deploy their applications in their own virtualized environment at cloud speed.
The update will be available to Hyper Converged 380 customers in the first quarter of calendar year 2017.
HPE Services helping customers adopt and consume composable infrastructure
Customers can not only deliver cloud capabilities easily, they can also consume these solutions with cloud economics through Flexible Capacity Service. This gives customers the ability to scale-up and scale-down capacity as needed, paying for what they consume. It also helps customers with cloud native applications using agile micro-services with pricing based on usage of the commercially supported Docker Engine. This way customer can charge on-premises service provisioning per VM as is typical with cloud provisioning.
To enable customers to accelerate time to value from these new solutions, the firm now offers Technology Services to help customers quickly adopt and capture the benefits of composable infrastructure and hyper-converged solutions. The firm’s Synergy Rapid Advisory Service explores use cases that fully exploit composable infrastructure capabilities matched to current IT challenges and the company’s software-defined infrastructure workshop and strategic architecture services help accelerate customers’ journey.
Cloud28+ expansion enabling hybrid ecosystem of global cloud providers
The firm also announced plans to expand Cloud28+, an open community of commercial and public sector organizations with the common goal of removing barriers to cloud adoption. It will open to partners across all company’s regions. Supported by channel program, Cloud28+ unites service providers, solution providers, ISVs, system integrators and government entities to share knowledge, resources and services aimed at helping customers build and consume the right mix of cloud solutions for their needs.
