Duke School Adopted Coho Data Scale-Out Storage

Due to ability to scale and analyze performance issues related to VMs

Coho Data, Inc., a provider of scale-out infrastructure solutions for the enterprise private cloud, announced that Duke School, a nationally distinguished independent school serving the Durham, NC community, selected the Coho DataStream scale-out storage platform due to its ability to scale and analyze performance issues related to VMs – via a cost effective solution.

Duke School

The school serves as an educational institution both within the Research Triangle Park area and wider educational community. As a project-based school, its project work curriculum serves as a model for both public and other independent schools. The school’s central IT team was looking to scale its infrastructure environment to deliver storage services to students, staff and researchers, yet performance from their current storage architecture was becoming a critical bottleneck.

We wanted to replace our aging legacy array in its virtual environment,” said Brian Horton, director of technology, operations and innovations, Duke School. “The complexity of the traditional storage systems made it difficult to analyze performance issues related to VMs. We evaluated several other storage solutions, but were ultimately impressed that the Coho system was racked and configured in less than 30 minutes – all through a cost effective solution.

Predictable Performance, Simplified Management in Cost-Effective Platform
One of the key reasons Duke School chose Coho was to move towards their goal of eliminating the management of traditional, outdated and more complex storage systems that did not allow insight into performance issues related to VMs. The DataStream platform addresses this challenge by offering a single pane of glass that provides performance and granular VM visibility not possible with traditional LUN-based approaches. The result is a platform that is simple to manage with little or no maintenance required.

We really appreciate working with knowledgeable organizations like Duke School’s IT team, as they clearly understand what their specific needs are when it comes to seeking a modern scale-out storage solution that is flexible and will grow as the school continues to move forward as an innovative educational institution in the new millennium,” said Suzy Visvanathan, director of product management, Coho. “Duke School’s IT team understands what is happening at the per VM level and are eager to be proactive at troubleshooting any performance issues. The Coho team is grateful to be able to provide them with a solution that addresses all of their needs and is economical, which was another key criteria for them.
