Huawei With Micron
For OceanStor all-flash storage subsystems
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 2, 2015 at 3:04 pmHuawei Technologies Co., Ltd announced its OceanStor flash memory strategy, which will widen the adoption of flash memory in data centers, ushering customers into the era of reliable and high performance all-flash data centers.
The company introduced its latest products and solutions at Cloud Expo Asia 2015, held at Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore from 28 October to 29 October 2015.
As part of this strategy, Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Micron Technology, Inc. at the Huawei Cloud Congress 2015. The collaboration will see Huawei providing flash storage solutions for high-density and big storage systems while continuing to explore best practices in flash technologies. Additionally, Huawei will work with other partners within the industry chain to innovate flash controllers, media chips, and enterprise storage systems.

Flash memory is key to delivering superior user experience while consuming less power, it is an indispensable tool to meet the business needs of our customers as we move towards the future,” said Zheng Yelai, president of Huawei IT product line. “Huawei is an established storage provider that researches and develops flash controllers and core algorithms to provide a complete lineup of converged storage product solutions for enterprises to help them meet business demands. The cooperation with Micron in the flash memory area is another shining example of Huawei’s long-term commitment to build up a sustainable ecosystem for partners within the industry chain to jointly developing industry-specific product solutions.“
With a similar price point to 15,000rpm SAS HDDs, SSDs bring more benefits for customers with the same budget and improve critical service performance by five times, while effectively mitigating environmental impacts on disks. The company has been integrating SSDs into its storage offerings at the start of September 2015.
